      Upcoming class news!
           We will be visiting the Book Fair this week. Our class will go to visit on Monday and will be able to fill out a wish list. If you would like your child to purchase any books, please send the money back to school in an envelope. STEM night will also be held at school this week. It will be on Wednesday, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Your child will be able to participate in  fun science and math activities.
           Next week, the students will be taking the 3rd quarter ANET reading and math tests. These tests are designed to help the students practice for the upcoming PARCC test in March.

                                                  This week at a glance...........
           Reading: We will be focused on reading similar stories and comparing how they are the same. We will work in our reading groups and discuss the books we are reading.
           English: We will continue to work on our writing skills and will write a literary analysis using two stories. A rubric will be sent home with last week's writing task.
           Math: We will continue working on fractions. We will compare fractions this week.
          Science: The science test on rocks and minerals will be on Thursday. Ask your child to sing the song we learned in science class...."We Will Rock You"!
         

January 6-9, 2015
     We are getting back into a routine this week. We will be working on reading from The Louisiana Purchase. We are also picking out an explorer and will begin researching our explorers in lab this week! It is going to be interesting and fun to be able to find facts on our explorers and begin the writing process.  Our class will continue to work on gathering information this week.
     In math class, we will begin working on fractions. This week, we will focus on equal parts and the fractions 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/6.

  HOMEWORK:
       Tuesday: English Begin studying Red Hot Words for a test on 1/16.
                      Complete the verb sheet.
                      Math- Multiplication by 9 sheet
       Wednesday: English- Continue to study the Red Hot Words.
                           Math- Module 5 Lesson 1 (Fractions) homework sheet
        Thursday-   English- Continue to study the Red Hot Words.
                            Complete the adjective sheet.
                            Math - Module 5 Lesson 2 (Fractions) homework sheet.
